YOGA SUTRAS, AND THE EIGHT LIMBS OF YOGA with Nicolai Bachman

Nicolai Bachman

3 CEUS $50/per session or $175 for all four

September 21, 2019

9am - 12pm: Overview of the Yoga Sutras: History, Structure, and Key Concepts

The Yoga Sutras is an ancient Sanskrit text that explains what yoga is in its broadest sense. Taking a bird’s eye view, we will examine its history and structure, then discuss what The Yoga Sutras is really about, focusing on certain key concepts and the overall purpose of this monumental work.

1pm - 4pm: Outer Behavior: Yamas and Niyamas

How we interact with others affects our heart-mind and those around us. Cultivating ethical behavior is essential for a civil society to flourish. Part and parcel with healthy social relationships is taking care of oneself.

November 19th, 2019

9am - 12pm: Personal Practices: Kriya-Yoga, Asana and Pranayama

The last three niyama-s (personal practices) make up a synergistic triad of tools that support the other limbs of yoga, and are necessary for bringing about real, lasting change and cultivating an inner orientation. Refining and unblocking the body and breath prepare us for our journey inward.

1pm - 4pm: Turning Inward: Pratyahara and Samyama

Focusing our attention in a single place centers our heart-mind, ending outer sensory distractions and moving us deep into our inner light of awareness. The final four limbs cultivate a sattvic heart-mind and a higher state of consciousness.

Voice Training & Public Speaking, Presentation, & Performance Skills

voice and public speaking

8CEU credits $99

DATE TBD

At Brooke Hamblet Teacher Training School, we want you to be heard as well as seen. While all yoga teacher trainings emphasize modeling and practice, most fail to develop an impactful spoken presence. In our voice coaching and public speaking elective, join BHTTS expert contributor, Douglas Davidson, in a journey to find your true voice. The world is waiting for what you have to say — BHTTS can help you share it. This workshop is open to anyone who wants to further his/her skill and comfort with voice and public speaking.

Douglas Davidson is an acting teacher and director of Shadow Dance Film & Theater Dramaworks. Davidson encourages students to free their performative instincts. His professional instruction banishes stage fright and shows students how to speak confidently in any situation. Davidson’s inventive approach uses group exercises and games in a supportive environment, where participants grow in themselves and develop performance skills for life.
